Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Japan Weightlifting Association, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 39th Men’s and 20th Women’s Asian Weightlifting Championships which will be held in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture Japan.

Kanazawa, the capital city of Ishikawa Prefecture, is located in the middle of Japan facing the Japan Sea and has important function as the main city of three prefectures of this area, the Hokuriku district.

The city has an unsurpassed, glorious history. The Maeda Family, the old holders of the largest domain in feudal Japan, governed this city for nearly three centuries since 1583. The successive lords especially fostered cultures such as “Kanazawa Haku” - gold leaf , “Cha-no-yu” - Tea Ceremony, “Kanazawa Shikki” - lacquerware, “Kaga Zogan” - inlay crafts, “Kaga Yuzen” - silk dyeing and so on. Some of these cultures has traditional quiet Japanese atmosphere and some of them has brilliant atmosphere by using beautiful colors or plenty of gold.

The name of “Kanazawa” means “Marsh of Gold”. As you know, this event is the Continental Qualification Event for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. I would like to support Asian friends to pick up Gold from “marsh” so that the results will lead to the great success in the near future.
